Things to do in San Francisco
Life was never filled with many travel plans. To me, going on a trip meant packing an overnight bag full of a weekend’s worth of clothes (ok, maybe a little more than that) and heading to Niagara Falls or a cottage up north. The thought of travelling was always a good idea, and I dreamt of all the places I would love to go, but I never actually would do anything about it. To me, they were just dreams, hoping that I would someday go and explore those desired countries or places.
Since I met my boyfriend 5 years ago, there has been some change to travel. Nothing too crazy mind you but it’s more like baby steps. This past May we spent a week in California. This was BIG for me. Ok, maybe I under sold myself in terms of my low key, plain Jane travel arrangements, but I have been to the United States before. I crossed the border to Buffalo, where I went to visit the other side of Niagara. Hmmm, what was I saying about plain Jane travel arrangements?
I was excited to visit California! I’ve heard great things and after seeing pictures of all the beautiful places, I really wanted to go.
My first stop was in Santa Clara. While my boyfriend attended an event, I wanted to find a local coffee shop where I can unwind, read my book and start my vacation on the right foot. I found an awesome coffee shop! It was hidden and it took me forever to find, but it was worth checking and rechecking Google Maps until I finally found it.
1oz coffee was a perfect place to start my vacation. The Baristas had their own bar outside and there was a ton of seating surrounding it. You had tables/chairs and lounge seating to choose from.
Beautiful sunny weather, delicious tasting coffee and a good book; it didn’t take me long to get into vacation mode.
Our next stop was San Francisco. We spent 4 days in San Francisco and stayed at the Omni Hotel in the Financial District. I highly recommend checking out the hotel, I really enjoyed my stay.
There are so many things to do in SF and we only had so little time to do it. Most of the time we rented electric bikes to explore the city and get there faster than walking, other times when we got tired we’d hop in an Uber and get to the next destination.
The beautiful views on Lyon Street Steps.
There were so many stairs to climb, but the views made it well worth it.
After the many flights of stairs, I made it to the next sighting, The Palace of Fine Arts. The Palace of Fine Arts is located in the Marina District. It’s such a beautiful place to visit, and there are so many performances at the theatre (maybe next time we’ll catch a show).
We rented electric bikes and just biked in the palace and paths. It was just so beautiful to look at, I couldn’t stop taking photos.
Our next sighting was the Golden Gate Bridge! I was so excited to take some photos and see how big it really was.
We decided to put the bikes away and walk on the bridge and check out the other side.
The views were really beautiful as we walked along.
We made it! The sun was hot, it was really windy and I had to stop several times to move the hair out of my face in order to snap a good photo!
After our long walk we debated to go for another bike ride somewhere. Our legs gave us the hint that they were going to give any minute so we decided to rest and grab a bite to eat somewhere. As we were on the other side of the bridge, we were close to a small town. We decided to grab an Uber and find a nice place to eat in the small town and explore.
Hello beautiful Sausalito California! This town was gorgeous. A lot of boats sailing by, cute restaurants and shops. It was a perfect place to relax after our long walk.
After a nice meal and a stroll around the water it was time to call it a night. Instead of just getting into an Uber and getting driven back to the hotel we thought it would be nice to catch the ferry instead.
After we arrived back at the Pier, we decided to walk around the shops before heading back to our hotel.
Grabbed something sweet.
San Francisco is filled with so many places to explore. We did manage to see a lot in the short time we were there. I took a ton of pictures and wanted to share as much as I could on what I thought was the most fun and interesting to me. So here is a quick recap on the rest of the sightings during our time in SF.Bike ride through China Town.
I loved biking through China Town, there was something about the sights and sounds as I rode down the street.
The art on the walls were so cool! I couldn’t resist taking a photo or two.
San Francisco had some really nice views and so many places to bike. My favourite thing to do was just bike around and take in all the sights and sounds. I guess you can say that San Francisco took a piece of my heart. I’m sure I will be back here soon!
